Scope and Contents
This collection holds a number of materials about the plays that Denmark performed in and directed, primarily consisting of fliers and programs. There are numerous newspaper articles about these productions and about Denmark himself. There are a few folders of correspondence, photographs, and with information concerning Denmark's career after retiring from Beloit.

Biographical / Historical
L. Kirk Denmark (1916-1982) was a professor and chairman of the Speech and Dramatic Arts department, putting on over 300 plays. He joined the Navy after graduating from Southwest Missouri State University and earning a master of philosophy. After joining the Beloit College faculty in 1947, Denmark founded the Court Theatre in 1951 earning great acclaim throughout the Southern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois area, as well as nationally and somewhat internationally. As of 1965 he was elected to the board of directors of the American National Theatre and Academy. After retiring from Beloit in 1973, Denmark went on to teach at a number of schools, and even traveled to the USSR in 1975 with the U.S. Ballet Team.
