Scope and Contents
This collection contains correspondence, news articles, photographs, a diary, and other documents pertaining to or written by Jackson J. Bushnell, and they span from the 1830s (before his time at Beloit College) to well after his death in 1873. There are a number of materials related to the contents of the collection itself and about and by various members of his family.

Biographical / Historical
Jackson J. Bushnell was a one of the first faculty members of Beloit College and taught mathematics and natural philosophy from 1848-1873.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
Some materials were donated to the Beloit College Archives in 1966 by the Phoebe Griffin Noyes Library in Old Lyme, Connecticut. Correspondence regarding this transaction is contained within the collection primary source documents.
Other materials were donated by Emma L. Bushnell in 1934, an index for which is also in the collection's primary source documents.
