Scope and Contents

This collection contains correspondence, memorials, published labs, research, and studies, geological guidebooks, geological history textbooks, geological surveys, and maps. Allan Schneider served as a researcher for many of these, and was also often an editor. Much of the information describes Wisconsin and Indiana, or the Midwest at large. The collection extends from 1953 to 2008.

Biographical / Historical

Allan Frank Schneider was born on February 7, 1926 in Oak Park, Illinois. He attended Beloit College, where he majored in Geology. He was an active member of the student body, acting as freshman class officer, serving on the Union Board, acting as a ritual chair and treasurer of Beta Theta Pi, and playing on the basketball team. While at Beloit College, he also met his future wife, Betty Lou Dorn '50, who was a member of Delta Gamma and Phi Beta Kappa. They were married in 1950, and later adopted three children.

After graduating in 1948, Schneider went on to receive his Master of Science degree from Penn State in 1951, and his PhD in Geology from the University of Minnesota in 1954. He has been a member of the Geological Society of America since 1952. In 1970, he joined University of Wisconsin-Parkside as a professor in their Earth Science department until his retirement in 1993.

Allan F. Schneider, class of 1948, was a professor of earth science at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. This collection includes letters, memorials, research reports and labs, and geological guidebooks, surveys, and maps dating from 1953 to 2009.

Arrangement

This collection has been compiled over the years through separate accessions of various sizes from various offices and individuals, none of which has any accompanying documentation. The original order of the documents is unknown. The arrangement order presented here has been imposed by the College Archives staff.
