Scope and Contents

These records include materials relating to campus parent events like Dad's Day, Mother's Day, Parents' Weekend, and Family Weekend, and consist of programs, invitations, and correspondence. Much of these came from the Development Office and Alumni Affairs. There is a small group of materials originating from the Parents Committee, the Parents Council, and the Parents Association, and a collection of Parents Handbooks from the 1980s-2000s, created by the office of the Dean of Students. These handbooks contain lots of practical information for parents such as contact information for Beloit College staff and frequently asked questions and concerns relating to academics and student life.

This collection is open for research; however, certain materials are fragile and require Archives staff for handling, or use may be restricted altogether.

Biographical / Historical

The Office of Admissions, the office of the Dean of Students, and the Offices of Development and Alumni Relations (previously known collectively as External Relations) all deal with parents and families of Beloit College students in various capacities. The Admissions Office creates recruitment and enrollment literature aimed at parents. The Dean of Students Office creates parents handbooks. Development and Alumni Relations (also known as Alumni Affairs or External Affairs) has fundraising efforts aimed at parents, and were involved in the Parents Committee, consisting of both parents and Beloit College administrators. The Parents Committee evolved into the Parents Association and was governed by the Parents Council, to mirror the Alumni Association and its Alumni Council.

Arrangement

This collection has been compiled over the years through separate accessions of various sizes from various offices and individuals, none of which has any accompanying documentation. The original order of the documents is unknown. The arrangement order presented here has been imposed by the College Archives staff. The Office of Admissions, the Offices of Development and Alumni Relations (previously known collectively as External Relations), and the Dean of Students Office are the sources of the materials in these collections, and the Archives expects future additions.
