Scope and Contents

This small collection contains a wide variety of content, much of it rather miscellaneous. A large portion of its contents are the office’s published flyers, policies, and student housing information intended for prospective or incoming students. Nearly all materials were created after the mid-1960s, with most documents dated from the 80s, 90s and early 2000s.

Biographical / Historical

The Residential Life Program at Beloit College oversees the workings of student housing, including buildings and related staff, including Resident Assistants. The department offers a wide variety of programming initiatives aimed at improving the quality of on-campus living and culture. The office addresses most college policy violations related to residency, and supports the Campus Center, Campus and Community Outreach Center (CCOC) as well as the Alcohol and Drug Education program. John Winkelmann has been the head of the Residential Life Program, serving as Head Director for over 20 years, and more recently Associate Dean of Students.

Abstract

This collection contains records in connection with the Beloit College Residential Life Office, including office memos and emails, correspondence, news articles, student manuals, brochures, flyers, safety information, public announcements, housing lists, documents relating to the Residential Assistant (RA) and Orientation Leader (OL) programs, College Skills Center (Learning Resource Center), housing and lottery information, residence hall & special interest housing information and surveys, roommate placement and housing application questionnaires, some student housing policy information, and room reservation records 1934-36.

Arrangement

This collection has been compiled over the years through separate accessions of various sizes from various offices and individuals, none of which has any accompanying documentation. The original order of the documents is unknown. The arrangement order presented here has been imposed by the College Archives staff.
