Curriculum Records

This collection is divided into four series: General Information, First Year Initiative (FYI), Registration, and Summer School.

The General Information series contains reports, memos, meeting minutes, proposals, brochures and other publications, and general research done by the various entities that develop curriculum at Beloit College, particularly from Academic Senate standing committees, ad hoc committees, and task forces. There is also background information on the Beloit Plan (more Beloit Plan materials are available in a separate collection, AC 22), a fairly complete collection of course schedules (which offer similar information to the College catalogues) from the 20th century. Included are records created by the Academic Senate's Ad Hoc Curriculum Committee as part of their strategic planning efforts to update and enhance the curriculum from the 1980s.

The FYI series contains documentary materials starting in 1980 regarding the College's freshman year program, later called First Year Initiatives (FYI).

FYI program materials from 1995-2006 were acquired separately, donated from Tom McBride in summer 2014. There is much overlap among the documents supplied by McBride, who was the chief coordinator of the program during those years. Folders from within the same given year do vary subtly – for example, some documents were specifically compiled for distribution among faculty during annual FYI leader retreat events, while other folders include original notes and illustrate McBride’s planning and drafting process. Folders compiled for FYI faculty include materials like sample Comprehensive Academic Plan (CAP) documents, which are normally given to students during their FYI as a component of their advising materials.

The Registration series mostly consists of registration information in the form of poster-size schedules from 1907-1952, and in booklets listing courses for each semester from the 1960s-2000s.

The Summer School series contains issues of the Beloit College Bulletin, titled "Summer School Bulletin," devoted to summer school programming, which include calendars and course listings, as well as other summer college offerings.
