Biographical / Historical
The Beloit College alumni office has gone through many name and organizational changes, and most often it is affiliated with the development office. On June 28, 2012, the Office of External Affairs officially changed its name to the Office of Development and Alumni Relations. Arrangement
This collection has been compiled over the years through many separate accessions of various sizes from various offices and individuals, none of which has any accompanying documentation. The original order of the documents is unknown. The arrangement order presented here has been imposed by the College Archives staff. Additions are transferred regularly to the College Archives by the Alumni and Parent Relations and Development Office and Communications and Marketing.
Scope and Contents Note
The collection is divided into subject-based series.
Series 1, General Information, consists of documents produced by or geared towards Beloit College alumni as a whole. Of particular interest are the Alumni Fund records, which include documentation going back to the very early days of the Beloit Fund.
Series 2, Class Books and Records, includes official record books, correspondence, reunion information, scrapbooks, and news clippings of each graduating class, arranged by year. Most class years have only a few records and reunion packets, but the Classes of 1867, 1901, 1910, 1921, and 1949 have extensive materials.
Series 3, Alumni Organizations, contains the records of the Beloit College Alumni Association, regional Alumni Associations, the Alumni Company, the Alumni Council, and the Alumni League.
Series 4, Alumni Registers and Directories, consists of published volumes and two bound collections of registers.
Series 5, Mailings, include official correspondence from Beloit College organizations to alumni, mostly regarding events and fundraising.
Series 6, Reunions, contains information booklets given to alumni who attended class reunions, correspondence about those reunions, and other miscellaneous materials. These events and their booklets were organized around "alumni clusters" of 3-6 different class years. The Golden Hoods category denotes those classes that have reached their 50th year of alumni status.
Papers for individual alumni can be found in their personal papers collections, or in the Beloit College Alumni Files records.
This finding aid does not list audiovisual materials, but the Beloit College Archives does hold many recordings of alumni events on film and VHS tape.
