Beloit College Development records
Abstract
The Development Office has had many names over the years, but its primary function has always been the same: to develop the college's endowment and raise funds for various campaigns, programs, projects, and scholarships, amongst other things. This collection consists of many promotional brochures and mailings published by the Development Office, often aimed at alumni donors. Specific campaigns included are the "Greater Beloit Endowment Campaign," "Ford Foundation Challenge," "Sesquicentennial Drive," "Advancing Beloit," and "Classic. Daring. Life-Changing."

Biographical / Historical
Office name changes:
VP for Development and Alumni Relations
VP for External Affairs
Director of Development
VP for Development
The Development Office has gone through many name and organizational changes over the years. At one point it was a part of the Public Relations Department. There was a Vice President for Development, a Director of Development, a Director of Public Relations, and a News Director all at the same time within Public Relations and Development. Development was not affiliated with the Alumni Office at the time, which had its own Alumni Secretary. The 1989-1997 catalogs lists a College Relations and Development group in the administration section. 1997-2007 (at least) catalogs list an External Affairs and Development Office. A development publication from the Ferrall-era uses Office of Development and Gift Planning. 1922-1923 has an Extensions Department that wrote correspondence regarding the endowment fund. In 2013, the department became the Office of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR).
