Excerpt from documents in the collection:

Originally named The Beloit College Overseas Seminars, the purpose of the World Outlook Program (WOP) was "to insure the continuation and expansion of an already inaugurated program of faculty supervised study overseas for periods of one semester or less. Such highly specialized seminars provided, however, a wide range of benefits to the students: first-hand experience in a foreign land; immersion in a foreign culture and language; opportunities for travel and to use primary sources; independent study under close supervision, They will became, we think, a strong part of our new curricular emphasis on the world outlook."

Established in 1964 with Professor Ivan Stone as the first World Outlook director, the World Outlook Program provided Beloit College students the opportunity to not only see international dimensions of his/her discipline and life but to also develop greater international understanding through overseas experiences. The goal of these educational ventures was for students to "moved beyond mere parochial concerns to new perspectives and possibilities."
