This collection contains papers of certain members of the Emerson family, especially regarding their connections to Beloit College. Family members primarily represented are Professor Joseph Emerson, Art Hall curator and art department founder Helen Brace Emerson, and Joseph's father, Ralph Emerson.

Abstract From the time he was called to the chair of chemistry and mineralogy at Beloit College in 1881, Professor Erastus Gilbert Smith became an important figure in the Beloit community. Abstract Ethel Bird, class of 1905, was a prolific letter writer during her years as a student at Beloit College. Bird’s correspondence with her parents reveals a lively and teasing wit and provid a fascinating glimpse into the life of a woman student less than a decade after Beloit College became coeducational. This collection contains materials gathered in the event planning process for the annual Folk 'n' Blues (also called Folk and Blues) festivals held at Beloit College. Chiefly represented are contracts between the College and the performers, correspondence, news articles, Committee notes, t-shirt designs, and other logistical documents.

Abstract

This collection contains articles, exhibition programs, biographical information, printed versions and photographs of artwork, and photographs of Franklin Boggs, 32-year professor of art and artist-in-residence at Beloit College from 1945-1977. Boggs' art included subjects like WWII in the South Pacific, military medicine, tanneries, and architecture, among others. He worked in many art formats but particularly in murals.
